Well, today was my first day of nature studies! It was a park that had an animal habitat pond. There were bridges so that we could walk across the pond areas. Now I'll start telling you what we found! :) The first thing we did was walk across a small bridge over a little pond. On the railing was a mayfly! I had just figured out a few days ago that adult mayflies only live 24 hours. In the pond was a lot of sunfish and bass, a few turtles and even a bullfrog! We saw some spiders too. We also saw ducks, a beetle, a dragonfly with checkered wings, a huge red dragonfly, and a few bugs. We even saw blackberries about the size of a cherry or a large grape! Then we saw a hawks nest on a pole! Later when we went a little farther away, we saw the mother by a pond next to the father. The next thing we know, she's in the nest feeding the babies the fish she had caught! It was fun watching her. She then went back to the pond to catch more fish. We sat down on the grass in the shade and decided that we would try drawing the mother, father and baby hawks so we could always remember them. We also found a tree next to where we were sitting and it had some kind of berry on it. It tasted good but it had tons of seeds in it and we still aren't sure what it is. Well, just when we had sat down to draw the hawks, there comes a big dog off its leash. The park had rules about letting dogs get loose. Well after the dog had gone away we got ready to draw and my brother found a four leaf clover! :) That's right I said four, not three. We kept it and we started drawing our pictures. When we were done it was about time to go home. Even though I didn't want to go home yet, I new we'd be coming back next weekend. This was my first day of nature studies. I plan on posting all of our nature study trips if I have the time. So tell me what you thought about today!
Till later!!

Wow, what a great day out. Sounds like fun! :) Can't wait to hear about your future expeditions.
Could you imagine being a mayfly and only living for 24 hours?! Every minute would count. I'm sure we could all learn so much if we lived as if every minute counted. :)
Wow, sounds like a lovely time. I'm so glad you got to do that. My mom is working on our school work.. we dont' start until after Labor Day. lol
And, I am able to comment now!
